Why treated wood?
In a marine environment, there are two types of organisms that can threaten the condition of wood: fungi and marine borers. Fungi lodges in surface cracks and fissures, then spreads throughout the interior cellular structure of the wood, causing decay and disintegration. Wood is especially vulnerable to fungi at or near waterline levels.

Marine borers thrive in saltwater and brackish environments. They destroy the structural integrity of the wood by boring into the interior of exposed wood.

Pressure-treated wood is not susceptible to either of these creatures because the chemicals used in the treating process transform the wood into an undesirable food source. And, because treated wood is safe and effective, your project will last for years to come. Biewer Lumber is proud to produce and offer the largest stock of treated piling in Michigan.
